Cracked Wheat Cereal

Wheat makes a great cooked cereal. After eating a bowl, you aren’t very hungry for the rest of the day. In addition, you’ll never be constipated. Great for your health!

  • Bring 1 cup water to a boil.
  • Add pinch of salt (optional)
  • Dump in 3/4 cup cracked wheat

Reduce heat to a simmer and stir frequently for one minute or so. When you first add the wheat, you may think the mixture is too thin, but the wheat quickly absorbs the water. You can vary the cooking time depending on how soft you want the cereal. Also, vary the wheat/water ratio depending on how thick you want the cereal.

Add raisins, nuts, or what ever, for variety. Makes one large bowl. Enjoy!

Well we tried a dozen different combinations of wheat and water and time in
the crock pot. Either our crock pot is too hot or we are cooking it too
long. Anyway we finally used the boiling water overnight method and it
works fine. I boil 2 cups water in the microwave and put it in the crock
pot (might as well use it for something) and pour in 1 cup cracked wheat and
1/4 tsp of salt. Leave it overnight. In the morning I warm it in the
microwave – it comes out perfect. The only problem with using a thermos is
finding one with a large enough mouth so you can get the cereal out easy.
The crock from the crock pot holds the heat long enough, we just wrap it
with a towel and leave it on the counter.

    Hello
How is the cracked wheat? One grain = 2, 3, or 4 pieces? Should the grains be little bit fried before cracking or no baking before? I have some constipation I am interested in this cereal. your response will be highly appreciated. Please mail your response in my email.

When wheat is ground, you can usually control how fine the wheat is ground, that is, how big the particles are when the grinding is finished. Usually, flour is ground fine with small particles, a powdery fineness. Cracked wheat is ground with larger particles. How large? Depends entirely on individual preferences. Oatmeal is also good for constipation. I boil the water and then put the oatmeal in and boil it for about a minute or so. My wife doesn’t cook her oatmeal at all. She just eats it raw with raisins or brown sugar. I boil mine but eat it with nothing added. I use regular rolled oats rather than the pre-cooked variety. For one cup of water, I use about 3/4 cup of oatmeal.
